The performance Orten! is an original adaptation of the diaries of Jiří Orten, which the young poet of Jewish origin wrote between 1939 -41 until his 22nd birthday, when he was struck down by a passing German ambulance.
During his first loves, his search for his own identity, and his discovery of the intoxicating magic of poetic creation, written on round tables in Prague cafés, Orten became, as a result of his origins and escalating Nazi persecution, a fugitive in his own country, imprisoned far from everything that was dear to him.
Through an authorial interpretation of Jiří Orten's work in the form of poems, short prose pieces, diaries, reflections, and correspondence in a one-actor theater, we develop its unique form and expressive value – by using the principles of acting improvisation, clowning, decomposition, and deconstruction of language, we bring a contemporary perspective to his timeless work.
