"Since ancient times, ordinary people in Ukraine have listened to blind singers, kobzars. Or was it the other way around? The people were blind and the kobzars were the ones with vision?"
Blindness as a possibility to experience what remains hidden to the eyes. Blindness of the mind as the inability to accept the clash of one's ideals with reality.
Can Ukraine hope for a future without fear for its own existence, or is it blind faith? The Executed renaissance of Ukrainian poets looms over Europe like a memento: Can a nation be free as long as an empire survives that wants to devour it at any cost?
"Let me put it this way. We must believe in life and work for life not only in the moment of ascension, but also in the difficult moments that demand our reaction. Perhaps it is in the moment of reaction that our work is more necessary than ever. We must persevere."
Ukraine is bleeding while Europe struggles with its perpetual indecision and conformity. There are roughly 370,000 war refugees from Ukraine in the Czech Republic. Where have they gone? Where can we hear their voice? Solidarity, dialogue, new perspectives, convergence. What is our role before the war ends? And what comes after?
Part of the audience will be blindfolded for the duration of the performance and guided by actors and actresses through the history of Ukrainian resistance to the oppression of the Russian Empire.
